Hastelloy C276 is widely regarded as a versatile, corrosion-resistant nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy. It is an improved version of the Hastelloy C alloy, offering the advantage of not requiring post-weld heat treatment and featuring enhanced workability.

The alloy resists the formation of grain boundary precipitates in the heat-affected zones of welds, making welded products suitable for most chemical processing applications. C276 offers excellent resistance to localized corrosion and to both oxidizing and reducing media. Due to its versatility, the alloy can be used in a wide range of applications, even under non-ideal workshop conditions or in multipurpose plants.

C276 exhibits outstanding resistance to a variety of chemical environments, including ferric chloride, cupric chloride, hot contaminated solutions (both organic and inorganic), formic acid, acetic acid, acetic anhydride, and strong oxidizers, as well as seawater and brine environments.

The alloy also provides excellent resistance to sulfur compounds and chloride ions commonly encountered in flue gas desulfurization systems. In addition to resisting pitting and stress corrosion cracking, C276 is one of the few materials that can withstand wet chlorine gas, hypochlorite, and chlorine dioxide.
