How to Classify Wedge Wire Screens

JX Filtration Wedge Wire Screen

According to structural principles, wedge wire screens can be classified into fixed screens and movable screens.

wedge wire screens

1. Fixed Screens:

Screens in which the screening surface does not move.

  • Bar Screen:
A fixed screen whose surface is composed of bars or profiled rods. The slot size is relatively large, and the structure can be fixed at one or both ends.

  • Slotted Screen:
A fixed, flat screening surface composed of wedge-wire screen bars, usually installed at an incline.

  • Curved Screen (Sieve Bend):
A fixed screen with a screening surface shaped as a curved arc in the direction of material flow. The wedge wires are arranged perpendicular to the flow direction.

  • Centrifugal Screen / Conical Screen:
A fixed screen whose surface is made of wedge-wire rods in a cylindrical or inverted conical shape, utilizing centrifugal force for classification and dewatering.

2. Movable Screens:

Screens in which the screening surface has a defined motion.

  1. Trommel Screen / Rotary Drum Screen:
A cylindrical or conical screen installed on a horizontal or nearly horizontal rotating shaft, rotating around its own axis.

  2. Roller Screen:
A movable screen composed of a series of rotating shafts arranged parallel to the material flow direction. The screen openings are formed between the shafts and the discs attached to them, typically installed at an incline.

  3. Shaking Screen:
A screening machine where the screen box is supported by hinged rods, elastic rods, or suspension rods, and driven by an eccentric mechanism to produce a constant-amplitude oscillating motion.

  4. Semi-Vibrating Screen / Eccentric Semi-Vibrating Screen:
A vibrating screen with constant amplitude. It has four bearings—two mounted on the frame and two on the screen box. The amplitude is determined by the eccentricity of the shaft, and it is usually installed at an incline.

  5. Vibrating Screen:
A screening machine driven mechanically or electromagnetically, operating at a frequency several times higher than its natural frequency (super-resonance).
