What is a Rotary Drum Screen

A Rotary Drum Screen, also known as a Trommel Screen, is a screening device that performs material separation through the rotation of a cylindrical drum. The screening surface is typically cylindrical or slightly conical and is mounted horizontally or at a slight incline on a rotating shaft, where it revolves around its own axis during operation.

Materials are fed into one end of the drum. As the drum rotates, the materials tumble and loosen — finer particles pass through the screen openings, while larger particles are discharged from the opposite end along the drum’s axis.

  • Screening precision: 3–100 mm

  • Processing capacity: 15–80 t/h

  • Screening efficiency: 60%–75%

The rotary drum screen is particularly suitable for wet and sticky materials, maintaining good anti-clogging performance even when handling materials with a moisture content of over 15%.

Advantages:

The rotary drum screen operates smoothly, produces low noise, and is easy to maintain. However, it generally has lower screening efficiency, a larger physical footprint, and relatively higher energy consumption.
