What Is a Wedge Wire Strainer

Compared to woven wire mesh or perforated metal screens, wedge wire strainers feature unique continuous V-shaped openings that provide greater flow area and more precise filtration slots.

Thanks to fully welded construction, these strainers ensure exceptional structural integrity and highly consistent slot dimensions. In contrast to conventional domestic welding processes, fully welded wedge wire screens, filter nozzles, water distributors, resin traps, and sieve plates offer smooth surfaces with minimal sharp edges or burrs, and uniform gaps that effectively prevent particle bypass.

The main distinguishing feature of stainless steel sintered filter elements is the use of high-precision welding. After the metal mesh is rolled into a cylindrical shape, seam welding is performed with strict roundness requirements, and welds are ground smooth to ensure a neat appearance and prepare for subsequent full-body welding.

The smooth surface of the filter element serves as the filtration surface, and the slots are linear, providing a surface filtration mechanism. Wedge wire elements are widely used as ideal filtration components in various types of automatic filters—such as automatic backwash filters, scraper self-cleaning filters, disc self-cleaning filters, and suction self-cleaning filters—across many industries for fluid filtration.

Wedge wire elements are among the most effective filtration materials for water treatment and solid-liquid separation applications. They are extensively used in industrial water, drinking water, purification, sand separation and treatment, wastewater treatment, solid screening, and sludge dewatering processes.
